Teaching Digital Citizenship?
This is not your usual tech tip, though it will surely inform those that you will see in the future. Please take a minute to participate.
Jim Steyer, in a report from Common Sense Media, says that, “digital citizenship is a foundational skill for learning and life. As the lines between digital life and real life merge, we must prepare young people to harness the power of technology for responsible participation and active engagement. Today's students are our next generation of leaders, product designers, engineers, educators, and businesspeople. Without a firm grounding in the ethical and moral questions of digital life—our students' real lives—we cannot prepare them for the future.”
With this in mind I’m asking all U-32 educators to participate in the survey found HERE.
Keith, the director of Technology at U-32 and myself are offering workshops to seniors this week on Digital Citizenship, but we recognize that this one hour workshop during their last year at U-32 is not enough to ensure that we are preparing our students for a digital future. Maybe some of you already teach to being a good Digital Citizen. Maybe you don’t even know what that means. This is your chance to provide us some feedback to guide us in our work to help the teachers of U-32 help our students.
If you’d like to learn more about Digital Citizenship you can view the report referenced above HERE, visit the Common Sense Media website, or Google it.
