Maybe you've noticed that a lot of new AI tools are coming out, and maybe you've heard of some exciting things they can do, and maybe the not so exciting things. Maybe you know nothing at all. A beginners lesson to AI and what it does for us already!

AI Tools to consider:

ChatGPT is a natural language processing tool driven by AI technology and developed by OpenAI that allows us to generate a text-based response in human language. The language model can assist you with tasks such as generating essays and composing emails, and coding. The main aim to build this tool was to eliminate the problem of the traditional chatbot methods which we were using throughout the platforms like e-commerce, banking, etc and it works like a normal human being.

Features:

  • This can provide information on a variety of topics and responds to the user with text-based responses.

  • It can serve as a virtual assistant for managing little jobs.

  • Analyze the language and suggest changes that can make the information more readable and accessible.

  • Recommend things like movies, restaurants, etc. based on the user’s input.

  • Used to create code for different programming languages.

  • ChatGPT is made to be simple to use and navigate while offering a warm and engaging experience.

  • This is able to converse about several different subjects at once and comprehend and react to difficult queries.

DALL-E 2 is an AI language model developed by OpenAI that can generate high-quality images from textual descriptions. According to OpenAI, it represents “a preview of what future artificial intelligence will have in store for computers,”. The image generator improves on the original version with a sharper resolution It can take a complex textual description and according to the text, it generates images that match the text we have provided. Images can be created for a wide range of concepts It is an extension of the original Dall-E model that was introduced earlier in 2021.

Features:

  • Using the text inputs it can create images. The more information provided about the photographs, the more precise or ideal photos will be produced.

  • Able to produce realistic and original photos. It can produce many photos with great resolution.

  • This offers us the choice of any of the numerous photos that correspond to the written descriptions that are offered.

The Gradescope AI tool enables students to assess each other while providing feedback, which are often time-consuming tasks without AI technology. Gradescope relies on a combination of machine learning (ML) and AI to make it easier to grade, which saves time and energy.

By outsourcing these tasks, teachers can focus on the more important ones. Gradescope can be used by the teacher to grade paper-based exams and online homework, as well as to prepare projects all in one place.

Here some of the main features of Gradescope:

  • AI-assisted and manual question grouping

  • Student-specific time extensions

  • AI-assisted grading

  • Increased efficiency and fairness

Perplexity is another generative AI chatbot that lets users ask questions and get responses conversationally. What seems to set Perplexity apart is that it cites sources, which are easily clickable to get more context and more information. How it works: Go to Perplexity and ask it a question or request something. You'll see the concise version at first, but you can click to see a detailed response. It will also list the sources where it drew its information and other related topics. You can ask follow up questions, in a conversational manner like ChatGPT.

Conker Conker lets you create multiple-choice, read-and-respond, and fill-in-the-blank quizzes for students at a variety of levels on specific topics. It will also let you copy/paste reading material to generate quizzes. How it works: Open Conker and provide some details about the quiz you want to create. Conker creates a short quiz you can assign to students with a code -- or export to Google Forms. You can even create a printable question sheet and answer sheet.

Hello History is an app that lets you have life-like conversations with historical figures. Get a personal perspective on life, history, and the world from some of the most influential figures of all time - Cleopatra, Einstein, Buddha, and more. How it works: Use the app (iOS and Android). Choose a historical character. Ask it questions and discuss.

QuestionWell generates an endless supply of questions so teachers can focus on what matters. Just input some reading, and the AI will write essential questions, learning objectives, and aligned multiple choice questions. How it works: Copy/paste a reading. Add a topic and any learning objectives/standards. The AI creates learning objectives and questions you can export.

I know this is just a start and there are many more options available. I hope you continue to engage in learning about the changes AI will be bringing to our school, community and world!
